Decided to blast up to Loon Lake which is just off the Port Alberni Summit (425 meters) tonight after work to photograph the stars. I wanted to be somewhere with a little altitude and a little ways away from the city lights. I wasn't too happy with the view from the main fishing spot when I got there and was deciding on whether to stay or not. Then two hikers came out of the bush with their dogs and told me about another viewpoint with a clear view of Mount Arrowsmith that was about a 10 minute walk down the lakeside trail. So I put on my pack, grabbed my bearspray and my trusty headlamp and set out. The view was most certainly better than the other spot. It was a little freaky sitting out there all by myself in the dark as it is cougar country after all. But I figured with a full can of bearspray beside me that any cougar better like his meals hot if he wanted to snack on me! These shots were taken with my 7D and 10-22mm lens. All shots were 20 second exposures at f4 and at 1250 iso so I have had to blast them pretty strongly with noise reduction. The last shot is at the Cameron Lake beach looking west and you can see a big truck as it drives up to Port Alberni.
