In late September I made a trip up to the Thornton Creek Hatchery, which is just outside of Ucluelet. This is a trip I make every year (along with a gazillion other photographers) to photograph the local black bears. Every year in the fall they start to haunt the hatchery at the first signs of the salmon returning to spawn. Its a hard place for me to photograph the bears. One reason is because of the huge crowds of tourists that now flock to the hatchery as word has gotten out about it. Another is that I find black bears themselves hard to photograph. Specially in sunlight, and with those glossy black coats! Here are a couple of my images from that day.
