Loon Lake is a pretty little lake at the summit of the Alberni highway (or the "Hump" as Islanders are more likely to call it). It's about 7km from downtown Port Alberni. Years ago I thought of it mainly as a nice little lake to troll a wooly bugger or an egg-sucking leech around, looking for it's cutthroat trout. But these days it holds more interest to me for it's scenery and views of Mount Cokely and Mount Arrowsmith.
It was a cold December afternoon when I stopped there today to shoot some landscapes. I had hoped the lake would be totally frozen but there was just a small fringe of thin ice around the shoreline.
My stop was rewarded though with some spectacular late afternoon light and a perfectly calm glassy mirror of a lake. I managed to get a few shots I was very happy with!
