I've been shooting star trail images for a couple of years now. It's been a fun journey, learning my camera settings and the post production routine for creating the blended images. But one thing I have learned is that like all kinds of landscape photography, you still need good composition to make good images. And it was a search for a good site to shoot star trails with an interesting foreground that led Sean Sherstone and I way up the side of a mountain overlooking the Alberni Valley last night at 1am. This is the image I got after shooting some 180 consecutive 30 second exposures for 90 minutes and then prepping them in lightroom, and photoshop, and then stacking them in special software to show the movement of the stars in the night skies above us.
