Work took me out to the snowy Nanaimo Lakes area this Friday. There had to be at least 2 1/2 feet of snow and the tire tracks on the logging roads had melted and then re-frozen into sheets of pure slick ice. I was a little worried that I would I would find a patch of road that was so slick that I wouldn't get any traction at all. But I can tell you right now that there is nothing cooler than having a really good 4X4 in the snow. I have just put a set of new BF Goodrich KO2 all season tires on my Jimmy and am I ever happy I did. I followed a Subaru Outback on a logging road up towards Barsby Lake until he couldn't make it any further. He was getting high centered and eventually had to pull over to turn around when he had a chance. Then I passed him and showed him what a real truck can do in the snow! I made it a few kilometers further up into an open logged area and then took some quick shots just as the sun was going down. I really could have spent hours up there it was so nice. Without the snow and a sunset it really is just an old logged out section, but with some snow and a sunset...... I do hope I captured the better side of it.
